Code of Conduct

Code of Conduct Policy

We encourage creativity, fun, and self-expression, but all participants must adhere to the following guidelines to ensure a safe, respectful, and enjoyable experience for everyone.

General Guidelines:

  1. Respect for Others:

    • Treat all attendees, cosplayers, staff, and volunteers with respect and kindness.

    • Harassment, bullying, or inappropriate behavior (including offensive language or gestures) will not be tolerated.

    • Consent is key: Always ask for permission before touching or photographing someone else’s costume or cosplay.

  1. Appropriate Attire:

    • Costumes should be respectful and in line with the general atmosphere of the event.

    • Attendees are expected to avoid offensive or inappropriate costumes, including those that may be deemed discriminatory, culturally insensitive, or overly graphic.

    • Full-body costumes must ensure proper coverage; nudity or partial nudity is not acceptable.

  1. Safety First:

    • All cosplays and props should be safe for both the wearer and others. Props such as swords, guns, or other weapons must be appropriately designed (foam, plastic, or cardboard are typically acceptable) and non-functional.

    • Sharp edges, metal pieces, or anything that could potentially harm others should be avoided.

    • Keep your costume and props under control to avoid accidents (e.g., large wings or heavy items may obstruct pathways or cause injury if not handled carefully).

  1. Respect Personal Space:

    • Be mindful of others’ space, especially in crowded areas. Large or elaborate costumes should be worn with consideration for the space needed to move.

    • If your costume obstructs pathways or takes up excessive space, please be aware of your surroundings and adjust accordingly.

  1. Photography Etiquette:

    • Always ask for permission before taking photographs or videos of others, especially cosplayers.

    • Do not touch or invade the personal space of others when taking photos.

    • Be mindful of long lines or waiting areas—if cosplayers are in costume for photo opportunities, be respectful of their time and space.

  2. Inclusive Cosplay:

    • We encourage cosplayers to embrace all characters, and we ask that all attendees respect cosplayers' choices of costumes, regardless of race, gender, or body type.

    • Cosplay is for everyone, and diversity should be celebrated. Discriminatory behavior, including body shaming or mocking another’s cosplay, is not tolerated.

  1. Behavior Toward Guests:

    • Be respectful when interacting with guests. Do not engage in disruptive behavior during panels or events.

    • Autograph or photo opportunities with guests should be conducted with courtesy and following the specified rules set by the event organizers.

  1. Social Media & Online Conduct:

    • When posting photos or videos online, be considerate of others. Share respectful content and avoid sharing moments that may make others uncomfortable.

    • If you are posting group photos, always ensure everyone has given consent before uploading.

  1. Zero Tolerance for Illegal Activity:

    • Hype Con is a family-friendly event. Drugs, alcohol, or any form of illegal activity are strictly prohibited.

    • Smoking is only permitted in designated areas. Please be mindful of others' comfort and safety.

  1. Report Inappropriate Behavior:

    • If you experience or witness harassment, inappropriate behavior, or violations of the code of conduct, please report them immediately to event staff or security.

    • We take complaints seriously and will act swiftly to resolve issues

By adhering to these guidelines, we can ensure that everyone enjoys the creativity, camaraderie, and excitement that Hype Con has to offer. Thank you for contributing to a fun, inclusive, and positive environment!
